Two weeks.

Two fucking weeks, and he has yet to re-create the whole “first meeting” experience for me like he said he would. I’m still waiting. I would’ve been satisfied with just grabbing a coffee at Dunkin’s and calling it a date, but that wasn’t good enough for him. He nixed that idea before it was fully formed on my lips. According to him, if we’re really going to do this, we need to start from the beginning so we have better memories of how we first got together. I still can’t believe I’m actually going through with this, actually putting myself out there—for a man. And wanting to.

But it’s been so long since we initially talked about this I’m beginning to lose hope that it’s ever going to happen.

I suppose that’s why I decided to meet some guys from work at O’Hurley’s tonight. I haven’t been out with them in a while—between cleaning up the New York fiasco, the scare with Lisa’s health, and everything with Rico, I’ve been a little preoccupied—and I have to admit I kind of miss it. They’re a fun group, always good for a laugh, and fuck knows I need the release from all the stress I’ve been under these last few months. No wonder my buddies thought I needed to be shaken up back then—I did.

As an afterthought, I text the four of them and invite them to come hang out with us. The more the merrier, right? That’s four more people to help keep my mind off one.

Who just walked into the pub and is slowly making his way toward the bar where I sit with one of the guys from the finance department. Slowly. He keeps stopping along the way to chat with one of the guys—and a few of the ladies, too, damn him—from Carlton-Richmond. And while I’m pleased to see he’s acclimated so well with his coworkers, I’m burning up inside with anxiety—the good kind—and impatience because it suddenly hits me. Tonight’s the night. The night. Our do-over. I don’t know how I know this—I just do.

I have to admit I’m surprised he chose to do it at a time when we’ll be surrounded with people from work. I mean, fuck, so many things could go wrong in this scenario. Like we can’t keep our hands off each other or he opts to go home with Kelly from marketing instead; she has a reputation for bagging the new guys. And we’ll have all these people from work as witnesses.

But then, it makes a weird kind of sense, too. Approaching me while we’re hanging out after hours with some people from work. To the casual observer, it’ll appear like he’s just a new employee trying to make a good impression on his boss—hell, they’ve all done it themselves, so they’ll think nothing of it. But in actuality, it’s him giving me the do-over he promised me. A little risky, yeah, but well worth it if it delivers the results we both crave.
